Companion Cube Poem

i gave my hand to a gun
an AI tried to steal my love
as it had just begun
she told me to take care of it
to this i could not flout
but then she told me to destroy the thing
i could not live without
she said that if i contravened
her will for me to slay
she would not let me leave the room
i could not disobey
i didnt want to kill
and i didn't want to die
there was only one choice left for me
her wish i must comply
i sat him on the button
i walked into the room
i hit the switch, i grabbed the cube
and made him face his doom
i held him over the open pit
with seconds before it shut
if there was only another way
could someone tell me what?
i couldn't save my best friend's life
there was nothing i could do
i dropped him in and watched
as red fire turned to blue
after the horrid deed was done
i heard the voice once more.
she seemed happy that i murdered him
and she opened up the door
